Tools that penetrate the skin - dermapen needle cartridges, microneedling rollers and tips - must always be single-use or sterilisable in an autoclave, and used on only one client. After every treatment, disposable attachments are discarded as biological waste and the work surface is thoroughly disinfected.
Who is allowed to perform professional microneedling, and what training or certification is required?
Treatments that break the skin's integrity may only be carried out by a beautician or aesthetic doctor with the relevant qualification - an accredited beauty course, or medical training for deeper procedures - plus manufacturer training on the specific device being used.
What is the difference between the various microneedling depths?
Surface-level treatment down to 0.5 mm improves product absorption and skin texture, medium depths of 0.5 to 1.5 mm target acne scars and fine lines. Deeper procedures beyond 1.5 mm are performed only by a doctor, since they reach into the dermis and require medical qualification and appropriate facilities.
How should clients care for their skin after a microneedling treatment?
For the first 24 to 48 hours, skin should be protected from the sun, make-up and harsh cosmetics avoided, and only soothing, hydrating products recommended by the beautician applied. Extra hand hygiene is also important, along with avoiding swimming pools or saunas for a few days.
